Use the right temperature – check the pouch’s specifications on temperature.

If you find the laminated paper looking all wrinkled or dotted like an orange peel, it’s most probably because the temperature was too high. Thus, give the ink enough time (maybe an hour or so) to dry.

Laminate papers with dry ink – if you laminate a paper that you’ve just printed, there’s a chance the ink will mess with the lamination process.

Get the right pouch – if you get pouches separately from the laminator, you want to check the specifications to ensure that the pouch can work well with a wide range of inks.

To ensure the pouch gets even heat all over, preheat the laminator, and if there’s a ready signal, wait for it before laminating.

Preheat the machine – the adhesive on laminating pouches is usually heat-sensitive, so it has to be melted uniformly for the pouch to stick evenly.

If the coverage of the ink is very extensive, that makes it more difficult for the pouch to stick to the paper. This problem especially affects digital prints, and it is mostly due to the composition of the inks and the way these inks interact with the adhesive on the pouch.

Ensure the ink is dry – if the ink is still wet, there might be issues with sticking, and the free spaces might be filled with air bubbles.

Normally, the thicker the pouch, the more tension is needed. Check the pouch’s specifications on pressure and adjust the feed spool’s tension accordingly.

Increase the feed spool’s tension – one of the reasons for bubbling is inadequate tension between the paper and the pouch, leading to air getting trapped.

Try feeding the pouch slowly to avoid the problem.

Don’t force the pouch – some people push the pouch through the laminator to try and laminate faster, but this can cause bubbling.
